David Doubilet

David Doubiliet

David was born in New York City in 1946. He started taking pictures underwater at 12 years old using a Brownie Hawkeye camera with a rubber anesthesiologist’s bag from his father’s hospital for protection. He loved taking pictures of the ocean and everything in it. His challenge to himself is to redefine photographic boundaries each time he enters the water. He loves the under water light and tries to capture it and show it's beauty. David has written seven books about underwater photography and is the recipient of many awards. He has a wife, Jen Hayes, who is an aquatic biologist, writter and photographer. He also has his best dog Ivan along.

The first two pictures I just love. I think it is amazing how he captures both the under water and above water scences. I like the black and white one a lot because it has really great lighting.
I love this picture because it's perfect timing. Looking through his gallery I could tell he takes time taking his pictures and waiting for the perfect moment.
